INTRODUCTION

Do you ever ask the question why am I here? Sometimes you say to yourself, why am I doing the things I do? We have that inner longing somehow we are born for a purpose, a greater purpose. We go through life aimlessly and see that what we see is all it is but in actuality what we don't see is our true reality.

Meet Shandra Knight, all around overachiever, first year college freshman. Shandra is the type of person who tries to be everything to everyone. She hides her real desires and always put before her the desires of other people who wants her to succeed in life. In fact, Shan herself do not know what she wants to do with her life. In fact, she hides her desires only for one thing...so she never feels pain again. This stupor, this inner numbness has been the pattern of Shan's behavior until...God diverted her destiny.

We believe that the Lord works in mysterious ways, God sends a homeless person as a messenger and gives her a necklace that she lost from years ago, that necklace symbolized the hope she lost for two years.

What is that hope? Two years ago, Shandra was a witness to her friend and mentor's violent death. She cared about Laura and looked up to her as a role model. After that, Shan thought that she was the cause of Laura's death because God punished her for treating Laura bad. After that time, her facade of being the perfect student, the good Christian girl, and the dutiful daughter is the core being of why the fractured memories of Shan live still inside her.

That reappearance of the necklace Laura gave her (Shan lost it a few months ago at a senior picnic) symbolized the rekindling of the hope that God has given her. God tries to reach Shandra a lot not just this instance but through her dreams. She wakes up confused, thinking why is she having these dreams.

On the other side of campus, a short Asian girl prays in her dorm room. As she prays, God brings to her spirit her slacker classmate, Shan. Reluctant, God speaks a message to her about Shan's destiny. Katrina Porter, set out to what she must do, walks out of her dorm room with her books in hand. Her mission, she must tell Shandra what God told her about her destiny.

Will their paths converge in a divine appointment? We will see. Welcome to the world of the Lightning Prophetess.

Bio:

Real Name: Shandra Koger
Nic: Shan
Birthday: March 28, 1982
Hobbies: Playing X-Box, drawing manga, watching cartoons esp. manga, shopping, studying, doing ministry stuff, and…uh…sleeping and lots of that too. ^^
Otherwise known as: The Krispy Kreme Fiend (I Love Krispy Kreme Doughnuts XD)

I spent all of my life drawing. I never really seen Christian comics or heard of any before Archangels: The Saga. Really all I seen is the 80s bible comics prior to that. I loved to draw but also there is one thing I loved more than drawing is Jesus. I have been raised up in church all of my life but didn’t actually get saved until I was 15 and it was at a Christian play. This to me is a foreshadowing of God using Christian and the arts in my life.

After being saved for sometime I think about 6 months after, God placed a desire in my spirit to create Christian Comics. I shared my ideas for that but as anyone would see in the church some people is still warming up to the idea of other artistic ministries other than singing or praise dance. I started sketching a story---As I looked back on it, I would call it the prototype of Lightning Prophetess. This story was called: Anointed Class Gamma or Anointed Class G. With ACG, the story was about these young teenage Christians with Spiritual gifts and high tech gadgets fight in the physical and spiritual realm as a group of covert secret agents. One of my lead characters in ACG was (ahem) Shandra Knight. This Shandra was loosely based from me but we called this character “The Racer Girl.”

I loved to draw the characters in detail. It was initially done in Western style (because back then I was a big fan of X-Men) and added some armor as well as cool weapons. After a while I started to watch Toonami back then and fell in love with Robotech, Voltron, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, and Sailor Moon. Putting some of these qualities together this is when I learned how to draw manga. I knew how to draw characters but never how to make a manga. In fact, prior to 2003 I never owned a manga graphic novel at all.

God has given me a great talent to write stories I wrote a lot of superhero based short stories as well as others. By the time I graduated out of high school I bought a scanner and put some of the ACG sketches on line. The characters evolved and well as just when I was getting into the ACG story, a dream happened (no joke)…

The design of LP is what I saw in a dream, after a while….She became more reality. The Racer Girl is transformed into reluctant college student, Shandra Knight and became an entity of her own. As you can tell I had way too much fun creating the LP stories because everyone do not come knowing what they want to do in life, just like the average college student. I got the armor and the superhero portion down, but God was impressing in my heart to show the reality of the costly walk in the Lord. We all identify with a lot of things. This goes into how the characters are made. Some of the LP characters are based on Christians I know.  You have known one who acts  holier than thou (Kat) or one who has many struggles in different areas (Quan) or one who is finding out who they are (Larissa) or one that learning how to love (Billy) or one that is trying to find a place in God (Shan). Everyone has a purpose yet everyone has a place and the challenge in the Christian walk is finding that place in the Lord and learning how to stay in that place and be secure in it.

Initially I was going to have an all black cast, but it was impressed in my spirit to do a multicultural cast. I love working with different ethnicities. Too many times we see comics, Christian ones esp. being all one color. I want to show the beauty in diversity for there are different people in the world with different qualities to share. I guess when you get to read LP is Christian Manga with a unique message. At this point I say something clichéd here but…I thank God for this opportunity to share the word in my own unique way, in manga. ^^ stay blessed y’all.

Lightning Prophetess Episode Summaries. - This will take some time (grab a latte)

Episode 1: Dreams

The first issue goes into introducing Shandra Knight. It starts out in the dream sequence as our character gets a small preview of the Spiritual Realm but again don’t really know it. Shan is by far an overachiever as well as someone who plays by the rules to please the masses. As you see a few pages over she’s also can be a slacker and cynical at times.

Classmate Katrina Porter comes in as a friend and a tough one too. She befriends Shandra and knows that God has revealed to her the answer to a question that plagues Shandra’s heart. She talks to Shan about everything and reveals that it all is a part of which she really is a prophetess of God. Shan is in disbelief but yet sees the sincerity in Katrina’s eyes and accepts the prophetic training. But only because she didn’t want to hurt Kat’s feelings.
